Must-sees in the Cévennes

What to do and see in the Cévennes? The question is vast and you could spend days and days during your stay at the Barralet campsite hoping to see all the beauties of the Cevennes.

If there are territories more spoiled than others by nature, the Cévennes can consider itself particularly privileged. The Cévennes have something mythical and secret about them. It is a territory rich in history and with the most varied landscapes. Among the most incredible sites to see are the Cirque de Navacelles and its 300-metre canyon dug out over thousands of years, Mont Aigoual which culminates at 1567 metres and offers a breathtaking panorama, but also the site of the Menhirs to the west of Mont Lozère, which will fascinate fans of archaeology and history.

Camping dans les Cévennes - bambouseraie d'Anduze

The Cévennes are also home to a rich heritage of some of the most beautiful towns and villages in France. If you have the time, take a trip to Alès, Anduze or Saint-Jean-du-Gard to discover all the local specialities.

Among the must-sees in the Cévennes, La Bambouseraie remains a timeless and pure marvel that has existed since the 19th century. It is one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, with a thousand and one varieties of bamboo. The visit will enchant you. You will pass through several fantastic landscapes that all look like paintings by great masters. A day at the bamboo grove is also an opportunity to take the Cévennes steam train in Anduze, another well-known attraction for regular visitors. A trip back in time and a unique way to discover unforgettable landscapes inaccessible by road.

Train à vapeur des Cévennes - camping le barralet

Another gift from Mother Nature in this beautiful region of the Cevennes are the many caves and other archaeological sites open to the public. Depending on where you are, there is certainly an exceptional place near you. The best known, the Grotte des Demoiselles, awaits you in the Hérault department, under the Massif de Thaurac.

The Cévennes are also a great place for museums. There is something for everyone. Our favourite is the Dolls and Teddies Museum. It is located in Lézan and there is no doubt that it will enchant the little ones and make the adults fall back into childhood thanks to the exhibition of its 2500 pieces.
